Kuala Lumpur, 5 September 2016 – Khazanah Nasional Berhad (“Khazanah”), UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise”) and Iskandar Investment Berhad (“IIB”) are joining forces to present ISKARNIVAL 2016 which will once again take place at Iskandar Puteri (formerly known as Nusajaya) this time spanning three weekends, each in the month of September, October and November 2016.
The fifth installation of ISKARNIVAL, which expects a total of 100,000 visitors, promises a bigger and bolder lineup of activities for all ages focusing on arts, culture and creativity. It is being organised with the support of the State Government of Johor and Johor Bahru Tengah Municipal Council.
The main objective of ISKARNIVAL is to foster community ties and socio-economic inclusiveness which is key to the sustainable future of Iskandar Malaysia, the country’s southernmost economic corridor. In addition, ISKARNIVAL aims to highlight the many opportunities available in the new ‘creative economy’ for the rakyat especially Johoreans as well as showcase talents that have been developed over the last ten years since the inception of Iskandar Malaysia.
To celebrate Iskandar Malaysia’s 10th Year Anniversary, ISKARNIVAL 2016 will feature three uniquely themed festivals – ISKARNIVAL KREATIF will be held from September 17-18; ISKARNIVAL NARATIF from October 15-16; while ISKARNIVAL SAMA-SAMA will take place in November.
Iskandar Malaysia will be the focal point of ISKARNIVAL 2016. The venue of ISKARNIVAL KREATIF and ISKARNIVAL NARATIF will be Mall of Medini, and ISKARNIVAL SAMA-SAMA will be at Puteri Harbour.
Visitors will not only be able to gain knowledge and be entertained during these festivals, but also witness the developments that have taken place at Iskandar Malaysia for the last 10 years spanning tourism & leisure, education, creative, healthcare & wellness, business & industry, commerce & finance as well as property & infrastructure. Iskandar Malaysia have secured RM17.7 billion in new investments for the first half of 2016, bringing the total cumulative committed investment secured to RM207.99 billion from 2006 until 30 June 2016.
IRDA’s Federal Commissioner, Nor Hisham Mohd Yusof said that IRDA welcomes events such as ISKARNIVAL as platforms to engage the rakyat so that they are fully aware of the various developments and opportunities in Iskandar Malaysia in order to instill a sense of belonging and pride for Iskandar Malaysia, especially among Johoreans and the local communities.
“After almost a decade of growth, we continue to ensure Iskandar Malaysia’s developments benefit the rakyat in terms of employment and business opportunities, as well as a better quality of life with improved hard and soft infrastructure and various educational, health and recreational facilities, to name a few; and as we approach Iskandar Malaysia’s 10th anniversary in November this year, we can look forward to various events and activities from now and throughout 2017 across Iskandar Malaysia in conjunction with this milestone,” added Nor Hisham.

This year, ISKARNIVAL brings a bigger pool of local talents from all over Malaysia, hence exposing Iskandar Puteri to a wider audience.
“IIB is also very proud to announce another year for I.M. klik photography and short video competition which will focus on the progress of Iskandar Malaysia has undergone in the last 10 years. Celebrating our achievements, continuing our progress. The winners’ masterpieces will be unveiled and displayed at ISKARNIVAL Sama-Sama in in November.”
UEM Sunrise’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib said this year’s ISKARNIVAL is unique because it provides Johoreans and the Rakyat an artistic, creative and cultural platform for them to participate in leading to a rapid expansion of economic opportunities and sustainable development for everyone in Iskandar Malaysia and Iskandar Puteri.
