To be held over 2 days at 15 venues and feature 145 events
ISKANDAR PUTERI, JOHOR, 13 September 2016 – Khazanah Nasional Berhad (“Khazanah”), UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise”) and Iskandar Investment Berhad (“IIB”) are once again joining forces to organise ISKARNIVAL 2016 though this year it will feature three components, one of which is ISKARNIVAL KREATIF.
To be held from 17 to 18 September 2016 in 15 venues surrounding Mall of Medini in Iskandar Puteri, ISKARNIVAL KREATIF is a platform to promote creativity and innovation. A total of 145 events will be organised led by some 661 creative and innovative talents from Johor, other parts of Malaysia as well as Singapore and America.
Some of the programmes and activities that will take place include design and critical thinking talks and workshops, start-up brainstorming and hackathon, interactive activities, film screenings, music, workshops and exhibitions of diverse creative industry content. The event is a platform to promote and encourage cross-pollination of innovative ideas that showcases local initiatives and empower talents within Iskandar Puteri and beyond, where the creative industry is increasingly shaping the future economy.
One of the creative organisations that will be showcasing their wares at ISKARNIVAL KREATIF is Kraftangan Malaysia, an organisation under the Tourism and Cultural Ministry of Malaysia, where arts and crafts by 25 Johor green vendors will be featured.
Other vendors include Biji-Biji initiative, a social enterprise that aims to share progressive ideas with the public; the Ikebana International Johor Bahru Chapter, an exhibition on art of Japanese floral arrangement and the Malaysian Official Designers Association or MODA.
Also present will be Hafizah Ibrahim, an expert within the film industry known for her special effects make-up skills while musical talents performing at ISKARVINAL KREATIF include OAG, Laila’s Loung, The Otherside Orchestra, Brian O’Reilly from the USA and Dharma from Singapore.
IIB’s I.M. kilk 2016, the annual photography and videography competition will also be launched during ISKARNIVAL KREATIF. Themed Iskandar Malaysia – 10 Years On, this will be the third year IID is running the competition. I.M. klik aims to provide professional and amateur photographers the opportunity to showcase their talents, and to encourage youths to take up photography; whilst capturing the growth and evolution of Iskandar Malaysia through their lenses.
All of the activities, workshops, bazaars and programmes will be commencing from 12:00 noon to 9:00 pm during these two days. For the convenience of visitors, complimentary Causeway Link shuttle bus service will b provided from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Larkin Central and Johor Bahru Central with the final stop being Mall of Medini.
ISKARNIVAL KREATIF is the first leg of ISKARNIVAL 2016’S three-part event taking place at Iskandar Puteri. The second is ISKARNIVAL NARATIF which is happening on 15 and 16 October 2016, focusing on the art of storytelling, forms of artistic exploration and inspiration, dialogues, poetry slams and cultural performances. The third is ISKARNIVAL SAMA-SAMA, a carnival-like event bringing people together through live entertainment, participatory activities and many types of music, dance, cultural performances as well as fireworks and scrumptious al-fresco food form a myriad of food trucks and F&B outlets. This will be help on 12 to 13 November 2016 at Puteri Harbour.
Organised with the support of the State Government of Johor and Johor Bahru Tengah Municipal Council, the main objective of ISKARNIVAL is to foster community ties and socio-economic inclusiveness which is key to the sustainable future of Iskandar Malaysia, the country’s southernmost economic corridor. In addition, ISKARNIVAL aims to highlight the many opportunities available in the new ‘creative economy’ for the rakyat especially Johoreans as well as showcase talents that have been developed over the last ten years since the inception of Iskandar Malaysia.
The fifth installation of ISKARNIVAL, which expects a total of 100,000 visitors, promises a bigger and bolder lineup of activities for all ages focusing on arts, culture and creativity.
