  • UEM Sunrise’s Road Safety Programme enters its fifth consecutive year since its inception in 2011
  • The Road Safety Programme aimed at educating the young children with road safety knowledge and to provide better understanding on basic road safety etiquette

NUSAJAYA, Johor, 16 June 2015: UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise” or the “Company”), the master developer of Nusajaya, one of the five flagship zones of Iskandar Malaysia, in collaboration with Johor Road Safety Department (“JKJR”) organised Road Safety Programme for 150 Year Four and Year Five students from its PINTAR Adopted Primary Schools at Kota Iskandar, Nusajaya, today.

First introduced in 2011 and is now on its fifth year, the Road Safety Programme aimed at educating the young children with road safety knowledge, and at the same time, to provide better understanding on basic road safety etiquette. The programme was filled with useful practical safety prevention measures and case studies that enabled them to identify traffic hazards as well as to help them to self-regulate their behaviour based on inherent risks on the road and traffic environment.

In line with the Ministry of Education’s road safety syllabus, apart from being an educational platform, the programme also served as an avenue to support and promote road safety awareness amongst the public, starting with the children.

The half-day programme comprised two exciting yet educational sessions that provided hands-on interactive learning experiences including talk, demonstrations, activities as well as interactive games.

The first part of the programme was filled with basic road safety talk and demonstration on useful information shared by JKJR including interactive game called “Pulang Dengan Selamat”. The second part of the programme, let the students enjoyed more mind-challenging activities through race-like game called ‘Fast & Furious Race’.

Working in a group of five members, ‘Fast & Furious Race’ featured six pit-stops consisting questions in English on road signs quizzes, street safety case studies, words search, sign language puzzles and crafting the Malaysia road signs based on their creativity.

Encik Rusli Zainal Abidin, General Manager for Township, Infrastructure and Planning of UEM Sunrise said, “The students love to learn and play so we organised a physical activity that tested their understandings with the element of High Order Thinking Skills (“HOTS”). It is our hope that this Road Safety Programme will be a practical platform for the children in nurturing them to be part of the community that strives for safe traffic environment”.

“As a caring and responsible corporate citizen, we feel it is our responsibility to support and complement the Government’s efforts to inculcate a higher level of awareness on positive road safety behaviour to the younger generation in the community where we operate”.

“UEM Sunrise’s CSR policy focuses on Education Enhancement and Community Development. In implementing the Education Enhancement programmes, we are guided by PINTAR Foundation’s objectives to inspire the young generation to become responsible citizens by Promoting Intelligence, Nurturing Talent and Advocating Responsibility,” he added.

“The endless efforts particularly in providing knowledge on the road safety for the younger generation must be continued enthusiastically. Active involvement from the private sector such as UEM Sunrise today, together with JKJR, is to support the government agencies in conducting various campaigns in order to make road safety programmes more effective,” said Yang Berhormat Datuk Ir.
