160 Students Battle Through The “Amazing Patriotic Race II”

NUSAJAYA, 14 September 2015 – UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise” or the Company) today held the “Amazing Patriotic Race II” for 160 of its PINTAR Adopted School students at the Bangunan Dato’ Jaafar Muhammad in Kota Iskandar Nusajaya. The Company is one of Malaysia’s top property developers and the master developer of Nusajaya, one of the five flagship zones of Iskandar Malaysia.

The treasure hunt competition was organised under the annual National Day Programme introduced in 2011 for its PINTAR Adopted Schools to mark the Country’s Hari Kebangsaan and Hari Malaysia celebrations. The National Day Programme aims at instilling the spirit of patriotism and encouraging multi-cultural integration and unity among its students.

The Amazing Patriotic Race II follows the successful Amazing Patriotic Race I introduced last year with intensified and elaborated obstacles. It emphasised and tested the students’ knowledge on Malaysia’s cultural diversity; as well as highlighted the essentials of High Order Thinking Skills (“HOTS”) by incorporating patriotic elements and activities related to unity, diversity and Malaysia’s Independence Day.

Working together in a group of four, the activities required the students to be alert as different obstacles and activities required teamwork and leadership abilities.

Each team had to complete various activities at 10 ‘pit stops’ with many of them involve listening and spelling, crossword puzzles and memory games. At two of the ‘pit stops’, the students were also required to use chopsticks to move objects as well as wear one of the many Indian traditional dresses known as saree. This is to further promote multiculturalism among the students.

The race is divided into two categories – primary and secondary, to ensure that the meticulously-crafted questions fit both categories.

For the primary school category, the champion goes to group P-15 from SK Tiram Duku, walked away with RM500 worth of cash, medals and a certificate of participation. The first and second runner ups received RM400 and RM350 cash prizes, medals and certificates of participation which both went to SK Nusantara from group P23 and P29 respectively. Meanwhile, 10 consolation winners in this category received RM200 cash prizes and a certificate of participation for each team.

For the secondary school category, the champion went to SMK Gelang Patah, bagged home cash prize of RM600, medals and a certificate of participation. While the first and second runner ups both went to SMK Tanjung Adang from group S4 and S6, with cash prize of RM500 and RM400 respectively, medals as well as a certificate of participation. A cash prize of RM200 was given to five consolation winners including medals and a certificate of participation for each team.

UEM Sunrise’s Head of Corporate Communications, Nik Surina Suria Nik Abdullah commenting on the event said, “In line with our vision as a community builder, this is the #sehatisejiwa spirit UEM Sunrise is trying to instill in our Adopted PINTAR Schools, embracing each other’s culture. I am overwhelmed to see these students battle through the challenges and obstacles so effortlessly.

“The National Day Programme is one of our proudest initiatives aimed at supporting the Government’s efforts to inculcate the true spirit of patriotism, promoting multi-racial integration and unity among the younger generation particularly school going children. Furthermore, we want to promote an English-speaking environment out of the classroom in a healthy, educational and enjoyable manner”, she added.

The prize-giving ceremony of the Amazing Patriotic Race II was graced by YB Dr Haji Zaini Haji Abu Bakar, Assemblyman of Nusajaya, who presented the prizes to all the winners. The ceremony was also attended by respective teachers of UEM Sunrise’s PINTAR Adopted Schools.
