556 Asnaf Students Received UEM Sunrise’s Zakat Fund

UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise” or “the Company”) the master developer of Nusajaya, one of the five flagship zones of Iskandar Malaysia has successfully organised the Zakat Presentation Ceremony for 556 ‘asnaf’ students from its PINTAR Adopted Schools in Nusajaya, Johor.

The ceremony was graced by the Political Secretary of Menteri Besar Johor, Tuan Haji Mohammad Khairi A.Malik who presented the contributions to the schools’ representatives in the presence of UEM Sunrise’s Head of Corporate Communication, Nik Surina Suria Nik Abdullah and representatives from Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Johor.

Held at Dewan Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Nusa Perintis 1, the event is a continuation of UEM Sunrise’s 2015 corporate responsibility initiatives. UEM Sunrise contributed a total of RM123,800.00 to 298 primary and 258 secondary students.

The financial support aims to help ease the needs of the students as well as to assist them with their relevant school necessities.

“Zakat is the fourth pillar of Islam and has a deep humanitarian and social value. This religious act prevents the hoarding of wealth and advocates solidarity within humanity by distributing wealth amongst the poor and needy. The paying of zakat also helps purify one’s soul and encourages a person to be grateful towards God’s bounties,” said Nik Surina Suria Nik Abdullah, Head of Corporate Communication, UEM Sunrise.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, UEM Sunrise is pleased to be able to do our bit towards assisting the asnaf students from our PINTAR schools which is in line with the company’s corporate responsibility – that is to help create a better living for the community within our developments as well as areas that we operate in.” she added.

In Central region, among the organisations that received Zakat contributions from UEM Sunrise include ‘Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Wal Qiraat Addin’ (RM50,000.00), ‘Pertubuhan Nur Kasih Bestari’ (RM17,000.00), ‘Asnaf Fakir Students SK Bangi’ (RM12,500.00), ‘Rumah Bakti Al Kausar’ (RM 10,000.00) and ‘Pertubuhan Kebajikan Asnaf Al Barakh Malaysia’ (RM10,000.00) to name a few.

Apart from this event, UEM Sunrise also organised numerous CSR events this year that focus on High Order Thinking Skills (“HOTS”) development such as Academic Excellence Programme, Road Safety Programme, Motivational Camp and Motivational Talk with Parents, National Day’s ‘Amazing Patriotic Race’, Library Enhancement Programme, Green Debate and Public Speaking Competition, High Achievers Award and many more, exclusively for the UEM Sunrise’s PINTAR Schools Adoption Programme in Nusajaya.
