Full Release : KUALA LUMPUR, 5 December 2018 – UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise” or the “Company”), one of Malaysia’s leading property developers and master developer of Iskandar Puteri, will be organising the annual ISKARNIVAL 2018 with the theme “Main-Main” (Play) from 8 to 9 December 2018 at Puteri Harbour to not only promote the local creative talent industry but also to commemorate the first anniversary of Iskandar Puteri’s City status.
The seventh edition of ISKARNIVAL celebrates Iskandar Puteri as a hub for innovation and creativity while acknowledging the significance of 'play’ mode in our daily lives. ‘Play’ is essential for constructing knowledge and development of social, intellectual, creativity, problem solving abilities and emotional well-being. Thus, the two-day festival provides a platform for local initiatives and talents to explore and experiment based on the idea of play for all ages. ISKARNIVAL Main-Main will showcase immersive experiences, imaginative performances, inspirational exhibitions, hands-on learning opportunities and diverse entertainment options for the whole family while forming a draw to local and regional tourists. This festival also serves as a platform to encourage cross-pollination of innovative ideas from local initiatives and empower talents within Iskandar Puteri and beyond as the creative industry is increasingly shaping the future economy.
UEM Sunrise’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kenny Wong Koon Keng said that the creative economy is shaping more Malaysian creators and artists into professionals, which will positively contribute towards the country’s overall economic well-being. “The creative economy includes economic sectors such as architecture, arts and crafts, computer games, design, fashion, film, music, performing arts, publishing, R&D, and software production,’’ said Kenny.
As the master developer of Iskandar Puteri, UEM Sunrise prioritises the development of physical infrastructure of the city as well as nurtures the creative industry ecosystem’s spectrum that ranges from creators to consumers. “Creative industries are a powerful force not only to fuel economic development but also to facilitate social and cultural change,” Kenny said, adding that by raising the profile of the creative economy, ISKARNIVAL Main-Main will help raise its potential and ensure its place on the national agenda. Over 50 exciting performances and activities has been organised at the annual festival. Music performances will include Zee Avi, the United States-based singer-songwriter whose fourth album is expected to be launched in early 2019; Lyia Meta, who recently made Malaysia proud when she was named recipient of World Music Artist Of The Year at the 2018 Josie Music Awards in the United States; and rapper Joe Flizzow, who won the Best South-East Asia Act at MTV Europe Awards in Spain.
Another highlight of ISKARNIVAL Main-Main is the Moscow Circus, which is a troupe of 40 elite performers from Moscow’s two most famous circus companies: the Bolshoi and the Nikulin. Other performers will include Indie Band Hujan, Rap and R&B sensation, Zamaera as well as Man Bai, who is known for his self-titled first solo album, Kau Ilhamku in the 90s, and will be accompanied by Rahim Maarof. Dinosaur Kingdom is also making its way with 25 animatronic dinosaurs to Puteri Harbour with dinosaur-themed live shows, games, interactive rides, and educational booths for families with children. Festival-goers will also be kept busy with games and activities such as bamboo art, basket weaving, ceramic, comic, photography and sustainable crafts’ making workshops.
