UEM Land Brings Ramadhan Cheer to Villagers in Kampung Pulai, Gelang Patah

NUSAJAYA, Tuesday, August 17th 2010: The Holy month of Ramadhan is a month that teaches us to be patient and unselfish towards others.

In UEM Land Holdings Berhad, the true spirit of Ramadhan is to spread the culture of sharing and giving amongst all Muslims, especially to the community around us. It is the time to foster strong bonding and rapport amongst the community and the employees of UEM Land.

For this year’s Ramadhan, UEM Land organised a “Majlis Berbuka Puasa” with villagers of Kampung Pulai in Gelang Patah where both the UEM Land’s employees and the villagers jointly prepared the Bubur Lambuk, a famous porridge prepared during the fasting month.

The Bubur Lambuk was prepared as a “gotong-royong” activity by the villagers led by the Qariah of the Kampung Pulai mosque and volunteers from UEM Land.

The Bubur Lambuk was shared and distributed to more than 300 people in the village. Distributing the porridge to the villagers were UEM Land’s General Manager, Township and Infrastructure Planning, Encik Rusli Zainal Abidin and State Assemblyman of Nusajaya, YB Datuk Abdul Aziz Sapian.

The “Majlis Berbuka Puasa” is one of UEM Land’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility events where it gives back to the community. It also serves as an avenue for UEM Land’s employees and the community to get to know each other better.

Encik Rusli Zainal Abidin said, “Activities like this brings all the people from various backgrounds together. Ramadhan is a month when we should voluntarily give to others in need. Additionally, we learn to appreciate and remember the blessings of life which we normally take for granted”.

“I am truly grateful to see that this spirit of caring and sharing is still strong and intact amongst us as we endeavour to bring smiles to all these people,” he said, adding that several similar activities are lined up during Ramadhan to bring more cheer to the less fortunate.

During the event, 60 less fortunate consisted of the single mothers, orphans, handicapped and senior citizens from surrounding areas were presented with ‘duit raya’ and raya goodies worth RM100 and RM60 respectively to help ease their burden during the coming Hari Raya celebration.

Following the ‘buka puasa’ and Maghrib prayers, the villagers were then treated to a sumptuous dinner.
