UEM Land Promotes Road Safety Awareness Amongst its PINTAR Schools Children

NUSAJAYA, Tuesday, 23 October 2012: UEM Land Holdings Berhad (“UEM Land”), the master developer of Nusajaya, one of the five key nodes of Iskandar Malaysia, in collaboration with Projek Lebuhraya Usahasama (PLUS) Berhad has successfully organised its second road safety programme for 13 of its Primary PINTAR schools children at SK Taman Nusa Perintis 1 in Gelang Patah today.

The road safety programme which was held in a fun and lively manner is aimed at educating and training the young school children with the appropriate knowledge, skills and practical safety prevention measures to enable them to identify traffic hazards and help them to self-regulate their behaviour based on inherent risks in the road and traffic environment. The programme is in line with the Government’s efforts to inculcate road safety consciousness amongst the public, starting with young children.

Apart from being an educational platform, the programme was also an avenue to introduce and promote the Malaysians Unite for Road Safety (MUFORS), spearheaded by PLUS, to the school children. MUFORS is a community project that was set up to empower the community to voice out their thoughts and concerns on road safety in the country. It also served as a platform for the public to reflect on how they, as road users can do their part to make our roads safer for all.

The road safety programme covered several exciting, yet educational activities for instance; road safety video quizzes, emergency relief treatment activities and road safety mural contest where winners walked away with attractive prizes.

Launching the programme was, Tuan Haji Ahmad Taufik Bin Hamzah, the representative of Johor Bahru District Education Officer and delivered a speech to the participants.

“Through this road safety education program, we hope that it can be improved and increased the awareness to the road users as early at young age to make the road safety as a culture and practice in daily life,” Tuan Haji Ahmad Taufik said.

In the earlier speech Puan Sohailah Hj Yahya, UEM Land’s Deputy General Manager of Quality Safety and Health & Environment Department, she said, “As a caring and responsible corporate citizen, we feel it is our responsibility to support and compliment the Government’s efforts to bring about the desired changes in road safety behaviour, skills and attitude of the community,”

The event was also attended by Puan Mashitah Mohd Arshad, PLUS Berhad Corporate Communication Department Officer, whom also presented the prizes to all winners.
