UEM Sunrise Appoints Industry Veteran Datuk Wira Sr Azmar Talib as Chairman

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 AUGUST 2026 – UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise” or “the Company”) today announced the appointment of Datuk Wira Sr Azmar Talib as Chairman of its Board of Directors, effective 30 August 2026. He succeeds Datuk Hisham Hamdan, who served as Chairman since 1 July 2023.  

Datuk Wira Sr Azmar has served on the Board of UEM Sunrise as an Independent Non-Executive Director since 11 March 2024. His appointment provides continuity at Board level, supported by his familiarity with the Company, understanding of its strategic priorities and his extensive experience in the property development, construction and corporate leadership.

During his tenure on the Board, he has served as Chairman of the Board Development Committee and as member of the Board Tender Committee, contributing independent oversight and industry perspective to the Company’s development priorities and valuable perspective on nation-building objectives. Upon assuming the Chairmanship, he will relinquish both positions, reinforcing clear governance, appropriate checks and balances, and independent oversight.

Datuk Wira Sr Azmar brings over four decades of experience and has held various senior leadership positions across property and corporate sectors. He currently serves as Group Chief Executive Officer of TRX City Sdn Bhd, overseeing the development of Tun Razak Exchange, Malaysia’s international financial district, as well as Bandar Malaysia. He previously held various leadership positions within the Permodalan Nasional Berhad group.

Datuk Hisham, who is currently the Chief Investment Officer of Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Chairman of the Board of UEM Group Berhad, assumed Chairmanship of UEM Sunrise with a clear focus on enhancing the fundamentals of the Company and improving long-term returns of shareholders.

During his three-year tenure, he helped strengthen the Company’s financial and operating fundamentals, sharpen capital allocation discipline and reinforce its focus on sustainable long-term value creation. He consistently challenged the Company to translate the inherent strengths of its portfolio into sustainable outcomes, an agenda he described as “transforming potential into performance.”

He also played an important role in reinforcing of UEM Sunrise’s leadership bench, bringing greater depth and complementary expertise to the board. His tenure saw the appointment of Shaharul Farez Hassan as Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer, further strengthening the alignment between board stewardship and management execution.

He will continue to serve as Chairman of UEM Group Berhad, UEM Sunrise’s major shareholder, providing continuity at the shareholder level as the Company transitions to new Board leadership.
