Following the success of the original jazz festival at Publika, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur, the largest free indoor and outdoor jazz festival in Malaysia, UEM Sunrise (“UEM Sunrise” or the “Company”) in collaboration with Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels Sdn Bhd brought the festival to Iskandar Puteri for the first time this year with international acts such as Cuba’s Havana Social Club and Australia’s Michael Pignéguy & The Awakenings headlining the inaugural Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival (“IPJF 2017”) on 29 April 2017.
More than 5,000 people attended the inaugural Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival 2017.
Emulating the success of the Kuala Lumpur edition of the festival which recorded over 50 reputable musicians’ performances to date, IPJF 2017 gathered music lovers and leading Jazz artistes from around the region in a showcase of Southeast Asia’s Jazz talents. Both local and international audiences were treated to an assortment of jazz performances at Puteri Harbour. These included world-renowned jazz acts as well as leading regional jazz artistes such as the likes of Thailand’s Sound of Siam, which featured Koh Mr. Saxman, and Malaysia’s very own Evelyn Feroza and Asiabeat featuring Lewis Pragasam.
Marking its success as a regional landmark affair that drew regional and international audiences to Puteri Harbour and Iskandar Puteri, the festival is set to be bigger and better next year as it becomes an annual event for the region. Puteri Harbour is also set to be the preferred home for the IPJF, having hosted this year’s edition which drew positive reception.
In addition to the spectacular waterfront views, visitors enjoyed the luxurious waterfront lifestyle offerings of Puteri Harbour, which proved to be a perfect complement to the festival.
UEM Sunrise’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, En. Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib said, “As the master developer of Iskandar Puteri, we always look forward to create developments which have a holistic offering for the community – this spans across lifestyle elements to elements that celebrate the arts and the community. It was delightful to see the first ever Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival 2017 that brought everyone together. This is something which we want to continue to do. We want to delight our communities and enable them to enjoy such unique events which will put Iskandar Puteri on the international front.”
Besides the music entertainment, visitors also enjoyed a variety of bazaars and food trucks including the well-known ‘Johor Green Market’ and ‘Green Beverages’ at the festival. Admissions to the festival were free.
