UEM Sunrise Berhad, (“UEM Sunrise” or the “Company”) one of Malaysia’s leading property developers and master developer of Iskandar Puteri, is organising the second edition of Iskandar Puteri Kreatif (“IP Kreatif”), Johor’s festival of ideas that will be held from 22 to 23 July 2017, following the event’s successful debut last year.
Held throughout Mall of Medini, Iskandar Puteri, for the second consecutive year, IP Kreatif is Johor’s dedicated platform to showcase Malaysian creativity and innovation. The festival will feature a wide range of activities including creative talks and workshops, start-up and tech discussions, brainstorming sessions, interactive installations, music performances, multiple visual art exhibitions as well as a bazaar comprising food and handmade knick-knack stalls.
Designed to promote Iskandar Puteri as an innovation hub in an emerging creative sector in Malaysia’s economy, IP Kreatif is aimed at providing local initiatives and talents a platform to showcase and share their ideas which will then support a wider objective of greater creative collaborations as well as the cross-pollination of innovative ideas in Iskandar Puteri and beyond.
“As the master developer of Iskandar Puteri, we work to go beyond delivering quality developments for the region as we want to help build the communities who call Iskandar Puteri home too. Through events such as IP Kreatif, we hope that our communities can find new avenues to grow themselves, and simply enjoy the best quality of life here at Iskandar Puteri. UEM Sunrise is proud to serve the communities here, and we are definitely excited to have this opportunity to bring IP Kreatif to Iskandar Puteri for the second year in a row,” said Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Sunrise.
IP Kreatif 2017 will take on a more creative format than the conventional festival to better showcase the wide array of art, technology and cuisine in Malaysia. With over 300 local talents from all over Malaysia, the festival will host more than 100 creatives spanning various industries, including bands, artists and creative producers. IP Kreatif 2017 will also host a special BarCamp and Creative Tech Exhibition by Johor Startup which will demonstrate Johor’s potential in the tech and startup arena and connect its many movers and shakers. The BarCamp is a knowledge-exchange session in which industry stakeholders share and learn from one another in a casual setting. The Creative Tech Exhibition meanwhile is a showcase from 20 Johorean startups. Both were among IP’s Kreatif’s key attractions last year.
Among the bands set to appear at the festival are local ska-punk outfit Skudap Skudip, Nusantara-flavoured psychedelic rockers Pitahati, retro-pop ensemble Masdo, and legendary Johorean rockers Febians. Other acts include Johnny Comes Lately, Bayangan, The Times, Shh…Diam!, Handy Black, Raksasa and The Otherside Orchestra which are all set to enliven the atmosphere and delight visitors of the festival. Families can look forward to a host of local entertainers ranging from jugglers, magicians, and fire eaters too.
Visitors can also look forward to a showcase of visual art during the festival. Highlights include Segaris’s contemporary sculptures and artworks, art installations by Bono Stellar and Lee Mok Yee as well as ‘Make It Happen’, a collection of artworks which will provide visitors insight into the creative process. Festival-goers can also participate in more than 30 workshops and activities that will be held during the festival, and will have the opportunity to learn from the best in the industry such as from special effects make-up artist Neb Radzif, known as FX Cat, who will share more about her niche craft in a workshop exclusive to IP Kreatif 2017.
In addition to the workshops, IP Kreatif 2017 will feature 15 local vendors handpicked by Kraftangan Malaysia, an organisation under the Tourism and Cultural Ministry of Malaysia. Their wares will be available alongside selections from Johor Green,
Minut Init and Johor Startup. By Grace, a local family-owned desserts business, will also share their edible art with the public.
IP Kreatif has roots in last year’s Iskarnival Kreatif, a celebration in commemoration of Iskandar Malaysia’s 10th anniversary, which saw participation from over 20,000 attendees and 569 talents last year.
The festival’s activities will run from 12.00 pm to 10.00 pm on both days. Admission is free for the public on both days too.
