UEM SUNRISE & Publika Celebrates The Joy of Ramadan With 100 Orphans and Children of Maahad Tahfiz Kiblah

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 July 2015 – UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise” or the “Company”) in collaboration with its retail subsidiary, Publika Shopping Gallery (“Publika”) organised an Iftar for 100 orphans and children from two welfare homes, Rumah Nur Kasih Bestari in Segambut and Rumah Bakti Al-Kausar in Bangi; and a religious school, Maahad Tahfiz Kiblah in Sepang. The Iftar was held at the Company’s arts & cultural centre, mapKL in Solaris Dutamas today and was organised as part of a broader Community Building initiative within and surrounding the communities where the Company operates.

The children as well as care takers from the respective homes and religious school filled up the White Box – a 5,000 sq ft open daylight filled space in mapKL, equipped with track lights and basic sound systems. A sumptuous spread of traditional Malay juadah coupled with exciting games and enchanting Ghazal performances further overwhelmed the children and guests, where the setting and ambience transformed to the occasion. What a wonderful delight!

Moreover, Encik Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib, UEM Sunrise’s Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director together with several members of the Senior Leadership Team were seen spending some time mingling with the children and guests and later presented the green packets of Duit Raya to the excitement of all the young ones.

According to Puan Nik Surina Suria Nik Abdullah, UEM Sunrise’s Head of Corporate Communication, the organised Iftar is the Company’s way of showing its gratitude for the successes it has achieved during the year and share them with the less privileged. The Iftar also provided a platform and opportunity for the Company to expand its community outreach and build meaningful relationships with the communities within and surrounding the areas of its operations while providing some social assistance to lessen the burden of preparing for the upcoming Hari Raya festivities.

Corporate Social Responsibility at UEM Sunrise is founded on two guiding principles of Education Enhancement and Community Development. The Education Enhancement approach follows a firm belief that education is a fundamental human right and must be extended to every child regardless of sex, race, religion or economic status. UEM Sunrise brings educational benefits to ‘every citizen in every society’ with the objective to create a positive impact especially on the communities surrounding its operations. The Community Development approach is derived and aligned with its vision of building future communities.
