UEM Sunrise & Publika Host 100 Children For Iftar

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 July 2015 – UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise” or the “Company”) together with its retail subsidiary, Publika, hosted 100 orphans and children from two welfare homes, Rumah Nur Kasih Bestari, Segambut and Rumah Bakti Al-Kausar, Bangi; and a religious school, Maahad Tahfiz Kiblah, Sepang for an Iftar in conjunction with the month of Ramadan. The Iftar was held at the Company’s arts & cultural centre, mapKL in Solaris Dutamas on 7 July 2015 and was organised as part of a broader Community Building initiative within and surrounding the communities where the Company operates.

The children as well as care takers from the respective homes and religious school filled up the White Box – a 5,000 sq ft open daylight filled space in mapKL, equipped with track lights and basic sound systems. A sumptuous spread of traditional Malay juadah coupled with exciting games and activities such as batu seremban, congkak, ketupat case weaving and sepak chapteh were also organised. An enchanting Ghazal performance further overwhelmed the children and guests within the setting and ambience which was transformed to the occasion. What a wonderful delight!

During the occasion, Encik Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib, UEM Sunrise’s Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director, together with several members of the Senior Leadership Team, took the opportunity to mingle and spend time with the children and guests and later presented green packets of Duit Raya to the excitement of all the young ones.

According to Puan Nik Surina Suria Nik Abdullah, UEM Sunrise’s Head of Corporate Communication, the organised Iftar provided a platform and an opportunity for the Company to build meaningful relationships with the communities within and surrounding the areas of its operations while providing some social assistance to lessen the burden of preparing for the upcoming Hari Raya festivities.
