PETALING JAYA: UEM Sunrise Bhd’s flagship sustainability initiative, SIREH Park in Iskandar Puteri, Johor has been officially recognised by the Malaysian Book of Records (MBR) as the largest urban community green recreational park in Malaysia.

The 343-acre urban park, rehabilitated from a former coconut plantation and secondary forest, demonstrates UEM Sunrise’s long-term approach to sustainable township development. Managed by The Nusajaya Natural Heritage Trust, the park was envisioned in 2017 as part of the developer’s commitment to ecological resilience, community wellbeing and environmental education.

“This milestone reflects the collective effort of our partners and stakeholders who continue to shape the park as a shared resource for education, recreation and environmental care. As we grow, we welcome more like-minded corporations to join us in advancing meaningful, community-driven environmental stewardship,” officer-in-charge and chief financial officer Hafizuddin Sulaiman said.

The park is located near developments such as Horizon Hills, East Ledang, Nusa Idaman and Gerbang Nusajaya. Its development and programmes are supported by partnerships with residents, academic institutions, NGOs and youth groups. Initiatives include ecological restoration, awareness programmes and habitat monitoring efforts.

To date, over 10,000 native trees have been planted across the park, including species listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species. SIREH Park targets to reach 25,000 trees by 2028 through its tree planting programme. Wetland systems have been introduced to improve water quality and support local biodiversity. It now hosts more than 120 plant species and 35 bird species, with ecological monitoring carried out by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and other local research partners.

Also present were township chief operations officer Saniman Md Apandi, regional open space head Faisal Mohd Nor and senior independent non-executive director Christina Foo.
