UEM Sunrise Berhad (UEM Sunrise), one of Malaysia’s leading property developers recently extended its support to 10 of its PINTAR adopted schools near its master development of Iskandar Puteri, Johor, by providing 100 PCs to better equip their computer labs to enhance the students’ educational development.

During a handover ceremony held in the Company’s satellite office in Iskandar Puteri, each of the schools’ headmasters gathered to represent and receive 10 computers for their respective schools.

The contribution benefits around 6,500 students including those from SMK Tanjung Adang, SK Tanjung Adang, SK Ladang Pendas and SMK Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar. This not only ensures that the students will have access to better-equipped PCs to further hone their digital literacy, but it will also help lessen the schools’ financial burden in purchasing better equipment. The handover ceremony also helped foster a closer relationship with UEM Sunrise’s PINTAR Adopted Schools.

“Equipping our PINTAR Adopted Schools’ labs with better PCs to replace old ones is important as it provides students who do not have personal devices access to computers to cultivate their digital literacy. Since some schools here have reopened their doors, we felt that now is time for us to hand over the PCs to our PINTAR Adopted Schools,” said UEM Sunrise Chief Operations Officer, Southern, Zamri Yusof.

In line with UEM Sunrise’s brand values – C.H.I.E.F., which is an acronym for Caring, Honest, Involved, Enthusiastic, and Fun-loving, he added that the contribution will assist students to carve a path to achieve joy and happiness through education and that the Company is happy to empower the communities through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The headmistress for SMK Tanjung Adang, Hajah Noor Hafizah Abd Wahab, was delighted by the Company’s contribution. “We are grateful to UEM Sunrise for giving our students the opportunity to enhance their education. As digital literacy is a vital skill to have in today’s world, I am certain that this will touch the lives of our students and benefit those who need better-equipped PCs to complement their learnings,” she said.

The contribution is part of the Company’s three-pronged CSR strategy – Education Enhancement, Community Engagement and Environmental Conservation. Under its Education Enhancement pillar, UEM Sunrise embraces the firm belief that education is a fundamental human right and must be extended to every child regardless of gender, race, religion or economic status.

In addition, UEM Sunrise’s CSR initiatives align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals including goal number one which seeks to eradicate poverty in all its forms, and goal number four, which ensures inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all.

“Buoyed by the strides we have made in the National Recovery Plan from the COVID-19 pandemic, we are looking forward to having more quality engagement with the communities surrounding our developments in Johor,” Zamri added.

UEM Sunrise’s PINTAR Adopted School Programme started back in 2008 and is the Company’s longest-running CSR programme. The programme has assisted to boost the adopted schools’ academic performance and improving the education quality for underprivileged students. This is possible through the hands-on implementation of key initiatives and programmes.

Since early this year, UEM Sunrise also previously organised eight other CSR programmes including its recent collaboration with non-profit organization Happy Bank to distribute food to underprivileged families in conjunction with World Smile Day; the COVID-19 Livelihood Assistance Programme in the Klang Valley; distributing essential items to the Kampung Orang Asal Simpang Arang in Gelang Patah, Johor, cash contribution to the Pertubuhan Nur Kasih Bestari Orphanage in Kajang, Selangor in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri and the Chinese New Year contributions to the Persatuan Kebajikan Orang Tua Ceria in Johor.
