English Training Programme for UEM Land’s PINTAR Primary Schools Teachers

NUSAJAYA, Saturday, 26 May 2012: UEM Land Holdings Berhad (“UEM Land”), the master developer of Nusajaya and the key driver of Iskandar Malaysia, successfully wrapped up its English Teachers’ Training Programme 2012 for its 13 adopted PINTAR primary schools around Gelang Patah, held at The Ledang Urban Retreat, today.

The English training programme targeted at UEM Land’s PINTAR schools’ English option teachers aimed at providing the teachers with fresh and new techniques in teaching English as a second language more effectively in the classroom, enhancing teachers’ pedagogic skills and boosting their confidence in teaching. This programme has entered its final year since it was introduced in 2010.

During the two-day training, teachers were provided with effective techniques and approaches in writing and teaching as well as were updated on the latest changes in the teaching trends. The training which was conducted by a subject expert from British Council also provided a series of simple, yet effective methods in English pronunciation, a correct approach to writing as well as evaluating and assessing students’ learning abilities.

“The thrust of UEM Land’s Corporate Responsibility initiatives and commitments are in the areas of education and community development. We strongly believe that the best contribution towards community development is through sustainable academic programmes. In its earnest effort to help develop and engender an English-proficient community in UEM Land’s adopted schools in Nusajaya, we embarked on the English programme in 2010, which will benefit the teachers and ultimately the students in mastering the language,” said Nik Surina Suria Nik Abdullah, Head of Corporate Communication for UEM Land Holdings Berhad.

“It was a very useful programme where I gained valuable tips and knowledge for me to perform my duties more proficiently. The training activities were fun, yet systematic and detailed. It helped to enhance my pedagogic skills and prepared me to address my students’ learning needs better. A senior teacher like me especially must attend a refresher training from time to time to keep us abreast of the current teaching trends,” said Encik Yakni Tahar, Assistant Registrar (Student Affairs), SK Ladang Pendas, Gelang Patah.

The English training programme which commenced on 25 May was divided into two categories – Primary and Secondary schools, and was organised in collaboration with British Council. More than 20 teachers participated in this training. The second phase of the English training programme is scheduled on 15 and 16 June 2012 for Secondary schools.
