Sime Darby Sunrise Development Unveils RM1.6 Billion Integrated Development In Bukit Jelutong

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 10 September 2013 – Radia, an integrated development in Bukit Jelutong, was unveiled today by Dato’ Abd Wahab Maskan, Group Chief Operating Officer of Sime Darby Berhad and Managing Director of Sime Darby Property and Dato’ Wan Abdullah Wan Ibrahim, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise”). The RM1.6 billion* integrated development located at the heart of Bukit Jelutong in Shah Alam is the result of a landmark 50:50 joint venture by Sime Darby Property and Sunrise Berhad, a wholly-owned subsidiary of UEM Sunrise via a company named Sime Darby Sunrise Development Sdn Bhd.

About Radia

The inspiration for Radia stems from the Latin word ’Radius’, which refers to a line connecting the centre of a circle with the outer edge. It relates to the layout of the development and connectivity from the centre to the outskirt. The name symbolises vibrancy and connectedness of this integrated development.

An exclusive address to live, work and play

Radia will cover a gross floor area of 2.7 million square feet (“sf”), consisting of 640 units of serviced apartments, office spaces (400,000 sf) and retail space (880,000 sf) at the heart of the Bukit Jelutong township. The design of Radia is inspired by the French ‘Le Faubourg’ concept – a special character of exclusive and integrated neighbourhoods that cater to the everyday needs of its residents. Radia will exude a sense of belonging and is envisioned to be a true community gathering place for the entire Bukit Jelutong area and beyond. Its wide pedestrian spaces and retail promenade will bear lush greenery resembling the Las Ramblas in Barcelona, Spain.

Radia’s seamless connectivity to major cities such as Shah Alam, Klang and Kuala Lumpur through highways such as the New Klang Valley Expressway, Guthrie Corridor Expressway, Federal Highway and the North-South Expressway Central Link make it a desirable address to live, work and play.

When completed in 2018, Radia will provide shopping convenience and easy access to services for more than 100,000 residents and working population in Bukit Jelutong. Radia is set to attract investors and businesses which are drawn to Bukit Jelutong’s close links with nature, heritage and recreational offerings with a slice of exclusivity.

Bringing the best in business together

Dato’ Abd Wahab Maskan said, “This development is aligned with Sime Darby Property’s journey of innovation, from a developer of townships to a developer of themed, integrated, transit-oriented developments and niche developments. We are creating and enhancing a well-planned well-executed integrated development in Bukit Jelutong that will bring further excitement as well as radiance to the entire area.

“In delivering this objective, Sime Darby Property and UEM Sunrise will collaborate to leverage on each other’s expertise to bring further strategic value to our business owners, customers and investors alike. The partnership will add credence and power of attraction to the marketability and sustainability of the project as well as management of quality assets”, he added.

Dato’ Wan Abdullah Wan Ibrahim said, “UEM Sunrise looks forward to this joint venture with Sime Darby Property to develop this new and upcoming development in Bukit Jelutong. Our extensive experience in large scale integrated development such as Solaris Mont’Kiara, Solaris Dutamas, Publika and Nusajaya amongst others, along with Sime Darby Property’s market and development know-how will be key in transforming further Bukit Jelutong into thriving sustainable communities of the future, loved by homeowners, acclaimed by investors and recognised by the industry. The development, comprising retail, commercial, office, lifestyle and entertainment centres such as Radia is timely as it will fulfil the immediate and long term needs of the Bukit Jelutong community and the wider catchment area of Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley.”

Radia’s design to resemble a hand fan

Designed by French architect J+H Boiffils, Radia epitomises the metaphor of a hand fan, inspired by a fusion of Mediterranean and Asian themes. The design revolves around natural ventilation, based on Malaysia’s climate and the selection of a breath-taking array of floral biodiversity that contributes to an oasis of calm amidst a surrounding buzzing city.

Focusing on the experiential aspect of living, Radia is designed to allow the five senses of sight, smell, sound, taste and touch to co-exist in perfect harmony through a variety of gardens, water features and lights, creating an experience that encompasses different dimensions of life.

Radia has won the International Property Awards for the Best Commercial High Rise Development in Malaysia (5 star) and in Asia Pacific Region for 2013 – 2014.
