UEM Land Sponsors Star-NiE for its PINTAR Schools

Nusajaya, 28 June 2010: UEM Land initiated a strategic partnership with The STAR Publication Malaysia Berhad to inculcate reading habits and improve English proficiency among UEM Land’s PINTAR Schools via The Star Newspaper in Education (NiE) program.

A simple mock cheque presentation, symbolizing UEM Land’s commitment to the sponsorship, was held at Nusajaya Centre Sales Gallery to officially kick-start the program. Witnessed by most of UEM Land’s PINTAR schools’ headmasters or representatives, it was a show of their support and commitment to UEM Land’s efforts to help develop an English-literate generation in Nusajaya as well as engender an English-speaking environment in the schools.

With this sponsorship, the exclusive The Star NiE supplement which is published on every Wednesday will be distributed to all 17 of UEM Land’s PINTAR schools weekly.

This program which started last week and will end in November is seen as complementing the teachers’ English Training Program which ended recently.

It is envisioned that this program will provide an effective means for teachers to inculcate English speaking habit among the students. Additionally, it will help the teachers to explore a new and interesting dimension to teaching and the students a more creative and innovative way of learning through the use of newspapers.

A special NiE workshop for all UEM Land’ PINTAR Schools English teachers including the headmasters and principals will be conducted by The Star-NiE trainer on July 14 to provide better appreciation and insights on the techniques and approaches to maximize the benefits of this program.

The event was graced by the presence of En. Suliman Kamsor, Professional Development Officer of Johor Bahru District Education Department. Also present were En. Rusli Zainal Abidin, General Manager, Township and Infrastructure Planning of Bandar Nusajaya Development Sdn Bhd and Puan Karimah Tan Abdullah, General Manager, Corporate Communication, who then presented the cheque to The STAR’s representative.
